What is virtual reality?
Virtual reality (VR) is a computer-generated simulation of a 3D environment that can be interacted with by a person using special electronic equipment. The history of VR goes back a lot further than even the existence of computers, we mean way back, right to 1838 where the first stereoscope was invented using two mirrors to project a single image.
A century later, this developed into the patented View-Master which is still produced today, but it wasn’t until the 1980s that the term ‘virtual reality’ was coined and the popularity of the medium gained traction. By the 1990s VR had died off with people favouring the home computer as a more useful tool and as other technologies grew in popularity the concept of VR became quite kitsch until about 15-20 years later, when the smartphone and online gaming brought this platform back from the dead in a very big way. They will be able to watch your movements in a live feed from the arena, as well as being able to see what you’re seeing in virtual reality.
